With the levels of safety, fuel efficiency and overall versatility at all-time highs in the auto industry, it has become more difficult to decipher which vehicles are the most fit for families. To help parents easily sort through the plethora of child-friendly options on the market, Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com recently conducted extensive testing to determine its 12 Best Family Cars of 2014. Among KBB.com’s exclusive list of family-ready rides this year are two Chevrolet models: the redesigned 2014 Chevy Impala and the 2014 Chevy Traverse.
Starting with its Expert Ratings of more than 300 vehicles, KBB.com identified its top 21 family vehicles after nine editors voted for up to 20 of their favorite choices. The auto-research site’s staff then tested each vehicle for the hustle and bustle of family life by loading and unloading cargo, installing and removing child car seats, and even bringing in their own kids to enter and exit the vehicle. The new Chevy Impala landed a spot among the final 12 vehicles by providing a spacious and comfortable interior without dulling down its exterior styling, as well as offering affordable high-tech safety options like forward collision alert and adaptive cruise control. Meanwhile, the Chevy Traverse was honored for its minivan-like eight-passenger capacity and the cargo space to match.
“Both the Chevy Impala and Traverse feature a ton of space for you and your kids without sacrificing style or responsiveness on the road, so they are much more than just family haulers,” said Dane Halstead, general manager of Heartland Motor Company, a Minnesota Chevy dealer in Morris. “That’s particularly true of the redesigned Impala, which can be outfitted with a host of luxury amenities for thousands of dollars less than an upmarket model.”
The 2014 Chevy Impala is available with a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated seats, remote start and the next-generation MyLink infotainment system featuring an eight-inch touchscreen. Thanks to a stiffer body structure, active noise cancellation and the use of various sound-absorbing materials, those features can all be enjoyed in a quieter cabin. Buyers have responded positively to the new Impala’s upgrades, with the sedan outselling its nearest competitor, the Dodge Charger, by 40 percent through January since the redesigned model went on sale last June.
