When drivers spend a lot of time behind the wheel, it is important for them to have a quality interior that can make their commute a little less trying. For the past three years, WardsAuto has evaluated new or significantly revised cabins for its 10 Best Interiors list to help motorists find the models that offer refinement and comfort in spades. This year, the redesigned 2013 Toyota Avalon was included on the list, with editors praising its aesthetic appeal, build quality and technology.
To determine the Ward’s 10 Best Interiors list, editors at the publication drove 46 eligible vehicles during their regular commutes, scoring each model on its materials, ergonomics, comfort, safety, design and value. Technology was also factored in, with user-friendliness and connectivity of the dash interfaces contributing toward the final decision. WardsAuto recognized the new Avalon for its layered instrument panel design and quality materials, calling it the “most luxurious non-luxury car” they tested.
“With leather seats, available ambient lighting and Bluetooth connectivity, the interior of the redesigned Toyota Avalon gives passengers an escape from the outside world while keeping them connected to it at the same time,” said Wade Sterry, general manager of Russel Toyota, a Baltimore, Maryland Toyota dealer. “The Avalon offers all the premium amenities drivers really want from their cars, but without the bloated price tag that accompanies other marques.”
The all-new 2013 Toyota Avalon arrived at dealerships last December, sporting more passenger and trunk space, an available JBL premium sound system, upgraded materials and the option of heated and ventilated seats. Outside, the full-size sedan received a bolder design, with a larger grille and LED taillights punctuating the vehicle’s sleeker profile and lower beltline. A new Avalon Hybrid that returns up to 40 mpg in the city went on sale at the same time.
Buyers appear to be responding to the redesigned Avalon, as its March sales more than doubled this year over the same month in 2012, totaling 6,982 units. Through the first three months of 2013, the model has moved 17,525 units, a 75 percent increase year-over-year.
“The new Avalon has shifted buyers’ perceptions of what a highway cruiser can be, whether it’s the exterior, which is both sophisticated and sporty, or the cabin, which is high-tech yet inviting and comfortable,” added Sterry. “There’s no rule that says full-size sedans have to be boring, and Toyota has proven with the Avalon that large cars can have even larger personalities.”
