The Chrysler Group invested nearly $1 billion to revamp its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Michigan for production of the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200, and now the automaker wants its customers to see for themselves just how far that money has gone. Featuring Google Maps Business View technology and narrated by SHAP Senior Manager Shawn Jeffers, a new virtual tour covers the expansive birthplace of the redesigned Chrysler 200, capturing everything from the new body shop to the advanced metrology center through 360-degree interactive films and photography.
Viewable at www.chrysler200factory.com, the Chrysler 200 Factory Tour kicks off with an introductory video from Jeffers and then invites viewers to either explore the plant on their own or take a guided tour with 12 videos that showcase key areas of the facility. Those sections include a modern body shop powered by more than 1,000 robots, a streamlined butterfly-assembly process that gradually connects the two sides of the Chrysler 200’s body, a metrology center that ensures impeccable fit and finish, and a highly energy-efficient paint shop. All told, the SHAP relies on 3,260 workers and encompasses 5 million square feet, or the equivalent of 86 football fields.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 is the first midsize sedan to come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission, allowing it to return up to 36 mpg on the highway with its base 184-horsepower 2.4-liter MultiAir 2 Tigershark four-cylinder engine. For drivers who live in snowy areas, an optional all-wheel-drive system features an industry-first automatic fully disconnecting rear axle, which provides extra confidence during inclement weather and improved fuel economy when only the front wheels require power. Inside the cabin, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is available with either a five-inch or 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen that controls technologies like Bluetooth Streaming Audio and integrated Voice Command.
