With its new angular headlights, trapezoidal lower intake and sculpted body lines, the redesigned 2015 Honda Fit already features a bolder style than its predecessor. Now, six tuner teams will see just how far they can take the subcompact’s design before November’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Honda has tapped Bisimoto Engineering, Kontrabrands, MAD Industries, Spoon Sports USA, Tjin Edition and Kenny Vinces to customize the new Fit, and fans can follow the action and vote for a winning design on Tumblr.
Dubbed the Fit Performance Project, the competition will be captured at hondaloves.tumblr.com, with photos, animated GIFs and videos revealing the vehicles’ transformations as they receive aerodynamic body kits, wheels, custom paint jobs and other modifications. From now through Oct. 22, fans can vote on a winning team by liking or reblogging posts tagged with #ProjectFit. Honda will then award the tuner shop with the highest total likes and reblogs.
“Thanks to its new styling cues, the 2015 Honda Fit boasts one of the sleekest designs in the subcompact segment, which means that the SEMA tuning teams have an excellent starting point as they begin their projects,” said Tony Pescatore, general sales manager of Chicagoland Honda dealer Rosen Honda. “In the meantime, though, Fit buyers will be enjoying the hatchback’s more practical benefits, including better fuel efficiency, more interior space and a breadth of new standard features.”
Housing a new 130-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2015 Honda Fit returns up to 41 mpg on the highway when equipped with its optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). That is an increase of six miles per gallon compared to the most efficient gas-powered model from the previous Fit generation, which was last produced for the 2013 model year. Though the new Fit has decreased in length by 1.6 inches on the outside, it actually offers an extra 4.9 cubic feet of passenger volume and an additional 4.8 inches of rear legroom. Among the new standard features in the 2015 Fit are Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, a multi-angle rearview camera, auto on-off headlamps and LED taillights.
