With its 2014 model rated as a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Subaru Impreza was already nothing to sneeze at when it came to crash protection, but the compact car’s updated 2015 model takes safety to a new level. When equipped with its newly available EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, the 2015 Subaru Impreza boasts the IIHS’ highest rating for crashworthiness: Top Safety Pick+.
To earn a Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must not only receive a top rating of “good” in the IIHS’ moderate-overlap front, side, roof-strength and head-restraint tests, but also achieve at least an “acceptable” rating in the small-overlap front test as well as a “basic” rating at minimum for front-crash prevention. The 2015 Impreza went above and beyond those requirements, landing “good” ratings in every crash-protection test while securing the highest rating of “superior” for front-crash prevention. Incorporating Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning, the Impreza’s optional EyeSight Driver Assist Technology uses stereo cameras to detect potential collisions with other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and static objects.
“A lot of the new active-safety technologies from automakers look great on paper, yet they fail to live up to their intent when put to the test, but that’s far from the case with Subaru’s offering,” said Dan Coy, general sales manager of Russel Subaru, a Baltimore Subaru dealership. “The brand’s EyeSight technology is the IIHS’ highest-rated front-crash-prevention system, and it has allowed the 2015 Impreza to join the latest Forester, Legacy and Outback models as a Top Safety Pick+.”
EyeSight-equipped trims of the 2015 Impreza also feature new Steering-Responsive Fog Lights, which improve visibility during sharp turns by activating the left or right fog light according to steering angle and vehicle speed. Regardless of trim, all buyers of the 2015 Impreza benefit from a standard Rear Vision Camera to help prevent minor collisions when backing out of a parking spot. For added convenience and connectivity, the base Impreza 2.0i model also now comes with a new 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
