As America’s best-selling car for the past 12 years, the Camry wasn’t exactly in need of major changes, but Toyota has reaffirmed its push for more exciting vehicles with a significant overhaul of the ubiquitous midsize sedan for the 2015 model year. Recently revealed at the New York International Auto Show, the redesigned 2015 Toyota Camry sports an aggressive new exterior and the dynamic underpinnings to match, receiving nearly 2,000 new parts in all.
Up front, the 2015 Camry dons a wider, more pronounced trapezoidal grille, swept-back headlights and sculpted front fenders, while sharp design lines extend along its sides toward the tapered rear sheet metal. When buyers get behind the wheel of the new Camry for the first time this fall, they’ll receive crisper handling and a more responsive ride thanks to a stiffer body, a retuned suspension and refined electric power steering. Those changes won’t come at the expense of comfort either, as the car will feature tighter window and door seals, better insulated carpeting, and redesigned side mirrors that combine to reduce noise and turbulence.
“Toyota started selling a bolder Camry when it debuted the sporty SE trim in 2011, but the 2015 model will up the ante across the board in terms of style and driving dynamics,” said Wade Sterry, general manager of Russel Toyota, a Baltimore Toyota dealer. “Buyers will still get the reliable and cost-effective Camry that they’ve come to know, but the new version will also create a boosted sense of excitement that should keep the growing competition in the midsize segment at bay.”
For the 2015 model year, Toyota will build upon the success of its popular Camry SE with a new XSE trim that will offer exclusive upgrades like unique 18-inch wheels, firmer bushings, higher-rate coil springs, and customized shock absorbers and EPS tuning. Meanwhile, all buyers of the 2015 Camry will benefit from an upscale cabin boasting more soft-touch materials, satin-chrome trim, and a redesigned center console that conveniently integrates 12-volt and USB outlets into its storage box. A segment-first wireless smartphone charger will also be an available option in the same enclosed bin.
