Losing out on shotgun may not be such a bad thing in the 2015 Nissan Murano. Rear passengers in the redesigned midsize crossover can adjust their reclining heated seats or even control the vehicle’s music selections through an available USB port on the back of the center console. Those luxurious options for kids who are resigned to the back seat helped the new Murano land on the freshly released 2015 Best Cars for Families list from U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News determined its Best Cars for Families in 19 vehicle categories after analyzing automotive reviews in the press, reliability and safety ratings, passenger and cargo space and the availability of family-friendly features in each model. Emerging as the winner in the 2-Row SUVs category, the 2015 Murano was honored in part for its upscale cabin and optional Around View Monitor. Providing a 360-degree bird’s-eye view surrounding the vehicle, the Around View Monitor allows drivers to easily navigate the busy parking lots of schools and grocery stores.

“The redesigned Nissan Murano makes road trips more comfortable and convenient for both parents in the front and their children in the back, and the wider center console opens up space for simpler communication between the two parties,” said Bruce Garcia, general sales manager of Mastria Nissan, a Nissan dealer in Raynham, Mass. “While the new Murano features a relaxing lounge-like feel inside and a unique floating-roof appearance outside, that sleek styling doesn’t come at the expense of practicality. The 2015 model is 20 percent more fuel efficient than its predecessor, and it offers an array of advanced safety technologies.”

Boosted by an approximate 145-pound weight loss, an aerodynamic 0.31 drag coefficient and efficiency improvements to its drivetrain, the 2015 Murano returns up to 28 mpg on the highway with its standard front-wheel-drive system. Impressively, buyers who upgrade to Nissan’s Intuitive All-Wheel Drive benefit from the same fuel-economy rating. To protect a family’s most precious cargo, the new Nissan Murano can be outfitted with several active-safety technologies, which use up to four cameras and three radar sensors to warn drivers and, in some cases, apply braking pressure if there is a potential collision. Those optional systems include Blind Spot Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control and Predictive Forward Collision Warning.
