Massachusetts car shoppers who have always wanted a compact crossover from Lexus will soon have something new to be thankful for, as the 2015 Lexus NX will go on sale in the Bay State on Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving. In addition to becoming the luxury brand’s first small utility option, the all-new NX will be the first Lexus vehicle to offer a turbocharged engine, and it will also be the only luxury compact SUV available with a hybrid powertrain.
The base Lexus NX 200t will house a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder engine that produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and that substantial output will be channeled to a new six-speed automatic transmission. For buyers who wish to go gas-electric, the more fuel-efficient Lexus NX 300h will pair a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gas engine with two rear electric motors for a combined output of 194 horsepower, and the model’s acceleration will be boosted by a kick-down function in the new P314 automatic transmission. Both the NX 200t and NX 300h will be available with all-wheel drive for added traction during harsh winter driving conditions.
“For all the new compact SUVs that have hit the market in recent years, there are very few that are truly engaging when it comes to performance and style, but thankfully, the Lexus NX will be here soon to remedy that,” said Vincent Liuzzi, general manager of Lexus of Watertown, a Massachusetts Lexus dealer. “Not only will the NX offer the choice of two highly responsive drivetrains, but it will also provide the boldest exterior styling in its class.”
Sporting an oversized version of the brand’s signature spindle grille, the Lexus NX features an angular design theme that is accentuated upfront by slim wraparound LED headlamps and separate L-shaped daytime running lights. Buyers seeking an even more aggressive look will be able to opt for the NX 200t F SPORT, which will add an L-mesh black grille, matching black side mirrors, a metallic-coated lower bumper molding and exclusive wheel choices. Inside the cabin, the NX 200t F SPORT will treat drivers to exclusive Rioja Red upholstery with bolstered and quilted NuLuxe seats, a perforated F SPORT steering wheel, a brushed metallic gearshift and drilled non-slip aluminum pedals.
