AutoPacific: 2013 Nissan Sentra Is Most Satisfying Ride in Its Class

Nissan redesigned its Sentra for the 2013 model year to give the compact sedan a leg up on its stiff competition, and drivers are continuing to react positively. AutoPacific recently surveyed more than 52,000 new-vehicle owners before naming the 2013 Nissan Sentra as Best-in-Class Compact Car in its Vehicle Satisfaction Awards. Meanwhile, through the first five months of 2013, U.S. sales of the model are up by 20 percent compared to the same period last year.

AutoPacific determines its Vehicle Satisfaction Awards by evaluating owners’ responses on 51 model attributes, which span from performance and fuel economy to interior comfort. Dropping 150 pounds compared to its predecessor, the 2013 Nissan Sentra returns a class-leading 34 mpg in combined city and highway driving when outfitted with its next-generation Xtronic CVT. Even with that added efficiency, drivers can maximize the responsiveness of the Sentra’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine by selecting a Sport Mode. No matter the driving mode, buyers will find a range of available amenities that are rarities in the compact class, including leather-appointed seating, dual-zone auto temperature control and a Bose premium audio system.

“Despite its weight loss for 2013, the Sentra is actually bigger and more spacious on the inside, so there is nothing small about the level of comfort,” said Jason Ferreira, general sales manager of Mastria Nissan, a Greater Boston Nissan dealership in Raynham, MA. “As it revamps its lineup, Nissan is simultaneously improving performance, fuel economy and material quality, and that is an impressive feat that buyers are really getting behind.”

The new Sentra is Nissan’s third model to undergo a complete redesign in the past year, with the Nissan Altima midsize sedan and Nissan Pathfinder SUV also all-new for the 2013 model year. Last month, those vehicles helped drive the automaker to its best May sales ever, as the Sentra, Altima and Pathfinder posted year-over-year sales increases of 65 percent, 41 percent and 293 percent, respectively. With 9,340 units sold last month, the Pathfinder also saw a record May in the United States.

Nissan’s fourth newly redesigned model, the 2014 Versa Note hatchback, will be going on sale later this month with best-in-class fuel economies of 31 mpg in the city and 35 mpg combined. Like the Sentra, the smaller size of the Nissan Versa Note doesn’t limit its optional amenities, which include an Around View Monitor, Bluetooth hands-free phone calls and a NissanConnect infotainment system with Pandora Internet radio integration.

“With a starting price under $15,000, great fuel economy and smart technology, we expect the new Versa Note will be very popular with younger buyers,” added Ferreira. “Not to mention, the Versa Note’s rear hatch can open up to more than 38 cubic feet of space with the back seats folded, making it well suited for transporting band equipment or larger items for the dorm.”
