Promoting literacy at an early age is essential, which is why Brown’s Richmond Volkswagen teamed up with two local middle schools to collect new and used books to donate to underprivileged children in the community. On Saturday, March 1, Brown’s Richmond Volkswagen and the Robious and Midlothian Middle Schools hosted a “Stuff the Bus” book drive at the Barnes & Noble in Chesterfield Towne Center, during which people brought new and used books to the store to help fill the Brown’s VW bus. Donations are still being collected until March 8 at Barnes & Noble as well as at Brown’s Richmond Volkswagen, both of which are located on Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond, Va.
“The students did their part collecting books, but we need your help to provide enough books for people who need them in our community,” said Bill Colgate, general manager of Brown’s Richmond Volkswagen, a Virginia VW dealership. “Reading is something that should be fun, and we’re hoping that an enjoyable event like this will get this message across effectively.”
The “Stuff the Bus” event consisted of contests and events that took place inside Barnes & Noble, including food and drink sales and an in-store scavenger hunt. In addition, a percentage of the sales from this past Saturday went toward the book drive.
