City of Austin increases Food Handler Registration Fees

09/20/2013 (press release: tfst12) // certified@texasfoodsafetytraining.com

Effective October 1, 2013, the City of Austin will increase Food Handler Certificate registration fees from $10 to $12 for the two year license. The increase applies to Food Handler Certificates only. Registration fees for Food Manager Certificates will remain the same. The City of Austin requires employees working in food enterprises to have a Food Handler Certificate unless they have a valid Food Manager Certificate, work in unincorporated areas of Travis County, or meet one of the exceptions described in the Food Handler Code 10-3-34.

Food Handler Certificates must be obtained from an accredited Food Handler training provider and then registered with the City of Austin. Texas Food Safety Training, a local, accredited training provider, offers an online Food Handler course for only $5, the lowest price in the state. The company is offering to pay the $2 increase from October 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013 for any person that takes their training course.

“The lowest paid employees now have to pay more for a required license. We want to thank them for using Texas Food Safety Training by paying the $2 increase. We will maintain our current price of $15 dollars for training and registration through the end of the year,” said Travis Robertson, owner and operator. “January 1, 2014 we will begin charging for the increase, so we encourage people to take advantage of this great offer.” Texas Food Safety Training provides Food Handler, ServSafe®, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), and now Cottage Food Handler training and testing for food service industry workers. Courses are available in person and online in both English and Spanish.
