Crosby Wood Announces Potential Cyclocross Event in Pennsylvania

/EINPresswire.com/Cyclocross has become a hot sport in recent years, as athletes look for yet more ways to compete against one another using their bicycles as tools. As a member of the American Cycling Group, Crosby Wood has a mission to define cycling as a sport, rather than a hobby. Cyclocross fits in nicely with this goal, and Crosby Wood and his partners are hard at work, planning a cyclocloss race in Chester County next year.

According to Crosby Wood, cyclocross differs from other forms of bike racing in a few significant ways. For starters, the cyclists aren’t riding on level terrain. “Our cyclocross course will have rough patches made of gravel, wood and metal,” Crosby Wood says. “This forces the cyclist to get off the bike and haul it across the area as quickly as possible. This sort of thing is totally not accepted in a typical bike race, when you’re expected to keep your rear in the seat at all times.”

Cyclocross races also involve some jumps and hills, and those will be present in the Pennsylvania race as well. “We’re hoping to allow competitors to show off their technical skills here, and really perform some tricky moves that the crowd will enjoy,” Crosby Wood says. “We are hoping to lure people into watching this race, so we’re going to try hard to give the competitors the chance to show off and be impressive. This is the sort of thing that spectators love.”

Crosby Wood and his partners say that the race is still in the development stages. “Cyclocross requires you to use all kinds of muscles you might never have thought of,” Crosby Wood says. “People who have spent years cycling may not be used to hauling their bikes around or going over jumps. They’ll need to practice those skills if they want to win.”

Crosby Wood and his partner hope the first race will be a success, and races will follow every year. “We’d like this to be an annual event,” Crosby Wood says. “It’s just so much fun, and we’d love it if we could get people hooked on the sport and willing to participate every year.”
