Edmunds.com: Ford Vehicles Researched More Often than Any Other Brand

01/28/2015 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Beverly, Massachusetts // Thomas Ford

According to a 2014 study from Cars.com and Placed, Inc., roughly 80 percent of car buyers research vehicles online before heading to a dealership, meaning that today’s web shoppers closely reflect the clientele found at showrooms. On Edmunds.com, which is visited by about 18 million car shoppers each month, Ford was recently found to be the auto brand with the most vehicles that are researched the most often.

Eight Ford models received 2015 Most Popular on Edmunds.com awards, with each emerging as a top-three most-researched vehicle in its segment among site visitors from Jan. 1, 2014 to Oct. 31, 2014. Longtime favorites, like the Ford F-150, Explorer, Expedition, Mustang and Shelby GT500, were awarded in the Large Truck, Midsize Traditional SUV, Large Traditional SUV, Entry Sport Car and Midrange Sport Car segments, respectively. Additionally, Ford’s Transit and smaller Transit Connect were recognized in the Van category, while the Ford Fiesta was among the top three most popular subcompacts.

“It’s a testament to Ford’s engineers for the automaker to have such a wide range of vehicles sought after by online car shoppers, from its Fiesta subcompact to its large Expedition SUV,” said Jeff Klein, general sales manager of Thomas Ford, a Ford dealership in Beverly, Mass. “Regardless of the vehicle’s size, Ford remains focused on giving buyers a responsive ride without sacrificing fuel efficiency along the way.”

The 2015 Ford Fiesta is rated at 43 mpg on the highway when equipped with its optional 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder powerplant, which was named the 2014 International Engine of the Year. Despite its impressive fuel efficiency, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost churns out 123 horsepower, giving it more output per liter than the engine in a Lamborghini Aventador. On the other end of the size spectrum, the 2015 Ford Expedition comes standard with a much larger 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, but the unit leverages the same direct-injection and turbocharging technologies to produce 365 horsepower and a best-in-class 420 pound-feet of standard torque, all while returning a respectable 22 mpg on the highway.
