ESH Central (www.eshcentral.org) is a new online community for those seeking to become well emotionally through the Emotions Anonymous (EA) 12-step program. The site offers an opportunity for live chat, and online twelve step meetings throughout the day. Participation is completely free of charge.

ESH Central complements the Emotions Anonymous twelve-step program to help people cope with stress in daily living and to live a healthier emotional life. The steps and traditions used by EA are similar to Alcoholics Anonymous and other prominent anonymous groups. EA is not affiliated with any other organization.

The ESH acronym stands for experience, strength and hope. Participants come to ESH Central for various reasons, among them depression, anxiety, relationship problems and other emotional difficulties. The site is comprised of people who come together for the purpose of working toward recovery from emotional difficulties. Members are from many walks of life and are of diverse ages, economic status, social and educational backgrounds. The only requirement for membership in EA is an expressed desire to become well emotionally.

ESH Central provides a warm and accepting online setting in which to share experiences without fear of criticism. Through mutual peer support, members discover they are not alone in their struggles. Members may each have different symptoms, but the underlying emotions are the same or similar. ESH Central respects the confidentiality of its members at all times. ESH Central is ideal for those who do not have a physical EA meeting in their community, or for those who are home-bound or have special needs.

The EA program was founded in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1971. As of 2007 there are over 1000 EA chapters in 35 countries, including the United States. Emotions Anonymous is a nonprofit, volunteer, mutual self-help peer support program, and should not be construed as professional therapy.
