Ever wondered where your kids are? Use text messaging to find out

One thing is sure about kids – while sometimes you don’t know where they are, they definitely know where their cell phones are. Austin mobile development house Project ATX used these two facts to create a free app that solves the problem. ‘Spotted’ is a new Android app that enables parents to locate their children using basic text messaging for child safety.

“Spotted lets parents use their kids’ phones like a locator,” says co-founder Chris Rundlof. “The family safety app simply switches on the phone and returns the most accurate location for anyone who is approved in the phonebook.”

“The goal was to keep it as simple as possible,” says lead developer James Beswick. “We know that parents and kids use text messaging so we combined this with GPS to create an accurate and safe tracking app that could help in emergencies.”

Spotted is the first kids app by the Austin-based company that has several more projects ready to launch in the coming months. “We have a lot of kids in our families so apps that help parents are really important to us,” says Rundlof.

Spotted is available as a free download in the Android Market at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atxcap.spotted.
