This week, ExtraCare celebrated the opening of Shenley Wood Village. This retirement village is the second of its kind to open in Milton Keynes and is a fine example of the alternative care homes that ExtraCare provides to over 55s across the country.
The new Shenley Wood Village follows Lovat Fields Village which opened in Milton Keynes in 2007. The first alternative care homes to be opened are currently over-subscribed so the new village has been met with joy by older people in the area.
The first 184 apartments in the retirement village are now open and a further 116 will open in winter of this year. Each home features a kitchen, living room and one or two bedrooms, plus many have their own balcony or patio which is perfect for during the summer months.
Nick Abbey, ExtraCare’s Chief Executive, explains that the new retirement village will not only introduce a new way of living for the over 55s but also free up housing in Milton Keynes for local families. 300 people are moving into Shenley Wood Village so there is plenty of opportunity for young families to move into the area.
Shenley Wood Village is an alternative care home. ExtraCare’s philosophy is to provide older people with the chance to enjoy a healthy, active and independent lifestyle. This new retirement village suurounds a community-based Village Centre which comprises 18 health and leisure facilities, a restaurant, bar and well-being centre amongst other leisure opportunities.
The new Shenley Wood Village offers something entirely different to anywhere else. For those that wish to learn more about this retirement village or to find out about other locations across the country, simply visit ExtraCare.org.uk.
