Wines & Vines Announces First Oak Conference

09/05/2014 (press release: Wines&Vines) // San Rafael, California, USA

In the wake of the sold-out, inaugural Wines & Vines Packaging Conference last month in Napa, Wines & Vines announced that it will make the conference an annual event, and set the date of Aug. 19, 2015, for the next W&V Pack.

At the same time, the San Rafael-based media company declared plans for an entirely new conference on a topic equally interesting to its thousands of winery readers: oak, as in oak barrels and oak add-ins for wine. The first Wines & Vines Oak Conference is now scheduled for Feb. 11, 2015 (a Wednesday).

“We hope that winery owners, winemakers and other winery personnel save the dates now for both 2015 events,” said Wines & Vines publisher Chet Klingensmith. “We were overwhelmed by the great attendance and positive feedback we received from W&V Pack. It shows that our readers value the idea of a small-scale, focused conference and trade show. The second packaging conference and the new oak conference will give attendees and exhibitors a deeper, more detailed learning experience that will build on what they learn at the large-scale, all-inclusive wine industry shows.”

W&V Oak, convening in Napa at a venue to be confirmed, will include breakfast, lunch, numerous conference sessions and a trade show with 40 exhibitors who supply oak barrels, tanks, oak add-ins, barrel racks, barrel-cleaning equipment and more. Interested exhibitors are invited to contact associate publisher Tina Vierra at (415) 453-9700, ext. 102, or tina@winesandvines.com.

Wines & Vines is recruiting speakers including noted winemakers, academic researchers and international coopers to share their knowledge of oak with an emphasis on innovations. Topics will include different oak wood species, oak sources, grain, stave seasoning, toasting, coopering and finishing along with technical tastings of winery and university trials with varied oak products.

Winemakers and researchers interested in sharing their recent experiences and oak trials at the conference are invited to contact editor Jim Gordon at jim@winesandvines.com.
