Flight Centre Serves a Sweet Donation to Youngcare

/EINPresswire.com/ The Flight Centre Foundation recently presented a cheque to Youngcare, with the money going towards the At Home Grants program which helps youngsters requiring 24/7 care remain at home with their loved ones.

Aspiring bakers at Flight Centre’s Brisbane head office have put their cake-making skills to the test in a Bakeoff challenge, where they announced a $70,000 donation to Youngcare.

Flight Centre invited a team of special guests from Youngcare, including founder and chair David Conry and resident of Youngcare Sinnamon Park Bronwyn Tarlton, to accept a cheque for funds and judge the cake competition.

Flight Centre Foundation director Michael Murphy said the money had been raised collectively by staff through a workplace giving program and would provide 35% of the funds for Youngcare’s At Home Grants program.

“The generosity of our people has been extraordinary and really demonstrates that no amount is too small to make a difference to those who are less fortunate,” Michael said.

“Every day we hear stories about young people with high care needs, whether it is from friends, family members or work colleagues, so it is rewarding to see that our contribution is alleviating some of the financial, emotional and physical burdens,” he said.

Mr Conry had been working for Flight Centre when he identified the need to address the plight of young people in aged care.

He said the travel company’s support had helped him at the time to get the charity up and running, while its ongoing contributions had made it possible to turn his vision into a reality.

“We are nothing without the support of people in our wider community, and we remain grateful to those who support our vision,” David said.

“Full-time care is expensive and suitable facilities are not available, so Flight Centre’s donation will help us to enhance the standard of living for thousands of young people with disabilities,” he said.

The Flight Centre Foundation provides an opportunity for the company’s staff members to contribute to chosen charities and fundraising initiatives.

By harnessing the full strength of the Flight Centre family, the Foundation can successfully use its footprint to raise awareness of the great work carried out by each of our chosen charities.
