09/03/2012 (press release: OnlinePR) // The Co-operative Food
Co-operative Food and David Sands stores across Fife, Perth and Kinross are teaming up to raise money to help a Glenrothes family whose two-year-old daughter needs pioneering surgery to help her walk.
Little Kayla has cerebral palsy, and her parents, Katie Bird and Grant Neilson, of Shiel Court, are trying to raise funds so she can have life-changing surgery at a specialist hospital in Missouri, United States.
Earlier this year The Co-operative Food completed its acquisition of the 28 David Sands stores across Fife, Kinross and Perthshire. Now, colleagues at the David Sands outlets, together with its Kinross head office and staff at 15 Co-operative Food stores in Fife, are joining forces to raise money for Kayla’s operation.
Fundraising organiser Keir Christie, of The Co-operative, said: “Both David Sands and The Co-operative Food have traditions of playing important roles in their local communities, and raising money for the Kayla Fund is about community spirit, pulling together to make a difference to a local family’s life.”
All David Sands and Co-operative Food stores in Fife, Perth and Kinross will have in-store collection points for donations, and a series of additional fundraising events are being planned, from car boot sales to cake sales and a golf day.
Kayla’s mother, Katie Bird, said: “To have The Co-operative Food and David Sands stores supporting us with their fundraising is a tremendous boost. Hopefully the generosity of staff and customers will help us reach our target for Kayla to have the operation she needs.”
