The services that Friends for Life gives the elderly and people with disabilities are the topic of a new marketing campaign that launched today. TFNB Your Bank for Life announced that Friends for Life was selected a Charity Champion.
The marketing campaign also features an appeal for a much-needed upgrade to the air conditioning/heating system in the Friends for Life Waco building.
Friends for Life has been serving the elderly and people with disabilities since 1989. The nonprofit organization recruits, trains and organizes volunteers to help them live independently as long as possible. Friends for Life also improves their quality of life. Perhaps most known for its Adult Day Care Center, Friends for Life provide a safe, fun place for people to stay while caregivers work or take a break. The organization provides guardianship services in 82 counties in Texas and protect vulnerable seniors and people with disabilities from exploitation by providing money management services.
Friends for Life Founder Inez Russell says the organization’s facility was built in the 1950s. “While we have replaced a few of the units, there are others that need to be replaced,” said Russell. “Our next biggest need would be to upgrade our technology.”
Starting in January, Friends for Life along with other Charity Champion winners will participate in leadership development training by 360 Solutions. The staffs and boards of directors will come together and examine their organization’s long-term strategy, the roles and responsibilities of the teams and evaluate the skills needed to be a successful nonprofit organization.
The staff at TFNB selected Friends for Life from dozens of Charity Champion nominations. Russell and Friends for Life Adult Day Care Director Patty Robledo accepted the honor during the October 15, 2016 Kansas vs. Baylor football game.
“We are so excited about being chosen and hope that as a Charity Champion many more people will learn about the work we are doing and the people we serve,” said Russell. “I believe this will shine a spotlight on seniors and adults with disabilities, helping people see how special they are and how, with just a little help, we can empower them to live the best life possible.”
