Mazda has cultivated a reputation for building fun-to-drive vehicles with noteworthy fuel economy and style, and now the Japanese automaker can add another bullet point for outstanding cost of ownership to the resume. Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com recently recognized Mazda as having the most affordable five-year overall cost of ownership of any mainstream auto brand, giving it a 2013 5-Year Cost to Own Award.
Vehicle cost of ownership is a combination of several factors, including depreciation, maintenance and fuel costs, which makes it an important measure for shoppers looking for the biggest bang for their buck in the long term. With its fuel-efficient SKYACTIV technologies and high resale value, Mazda vehicles cost their owners less to operate. Beyond its overall brand win, Mazda also took first place in KBB.com’s Minivan/Van category with its compact 2013 Mazda5.
“Budget-conscious drivers want quality vehicles that are easy to maintain and worth more when it’s time to trade in, and that’s why more and more motorists are turning to Mazda,” said Tom McGovern, general manager of Rosen Mazda Waukegan, a Chicagoland Mazda dealer. “The best part is that you can have the performance and quality you want while still getting class-leading fuel economy, which is a total win-win for people who want to actually enjoy driving.”
Mazda’s efforts to provide a premium driving experience without premium operating costs continue with the 2014 Mazda6, which recently went on sale at dealerships across the country. The second vehicle to feature the automaker’s entire suite of SKYACTIV technologies, the Mazda6 is rated to return a segment-best 38 mpg on the highway from its 184-horsepower four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine. Transmission choices include a SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic as well as a SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual that keeps with Mazda’s sporty reputation.
The new Mazda6 pairs its impressive fuel economy with a sleek exterior that stands out from the competition. Featuring a prominent five-point grille flanked by sweeping headlights and flared fenders, the redesigned midsize sedan makes use of Mazda’s KODO, or Soul of Motion, design theme, which carries over into the interior. Available options include heated leather seats, an 11-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System and a 5.8-inch color touchscreen display.
“There’s nothing in the midsize segment that combines style, performance and efficiency like the new Mazda6,” added McGovern. “The vehicle is just further proof of Mazda’s commitment to creating vehicles that offer more than the competition, whether that means more miles per gallon or more heads turning as you drive by.”
