Leprechaun Chase 10k is selected “Race of the Month” by Runner’s World Magazine

02/05/2013 (press release: bencohoon) // Lincoln, NE, USA // Ben Cohoon

The Leprechaun Chase 10k, a St. Paddy’s Day themed run, adds a twist to the traditional 10k running race by starting the women 5 ½ minutes ahead of the men. This unique Saint Patrick’s Day themed run held in Ashland, Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa was chosen by the editors of Runner’s World Magazine as the “Race of the Month”. Runner’s World, is the world’s leading running magazine, informs, advises, and motivates runners of all ages and abilities. The magazine chooses a race each month as the “Race of the Month” and the March 2013 race was announced as the Leprechaun Chase 10k.

This fun and competitive St. Paddy’s Day themed run has quickly become a runner favorite and thousands of athletes from around the Midwest participate each year. The Leprechaun Chase 10k will be run in two locations in 2013. On March 9th, 2013 the Leprechaun Chase 10k, Nebraska will be held at the Strategic Air and Space Museum and Mahoney State Park in Ashland, Nebraska. The following weekend the Leprechaun Chase 10k, Des Moines will be held at Principal Park and Gray’s Lake Park in downtown Des Moines. The Green Beer After-Party will be just a few blocks away at the Royal Mile bar’s street party.

The unique chase format is one of the reasons why the event was picked by Runner’s World, with the ladies starting in the first wave several minutes before the men begin. The top male runner will have to pass the entire field of female runners in order to cross the finish line first. Like other races, the first competitor to cross the finish line will be crowned champion. This has created exciting finishes between the top two runners, but the lasses lead the all-time series 2 to 1.

After the event is finished, participants are invited to enjoy the festivities at the Green Beer After-Party. The after party will feature music, drinks, and event awards. Awards will be handed out to overall winners, age group winners, and best dressed themed runners. As an added bonus, the first place runner will win a free drink for their entire gender at the Green Beer After-Party.
