There are many financial factors to consider beyond purchase price when choosing a pickup truck, and according to auto-research firm Vincentric, Chevrolet has taken back the title of Best Value Truck Brand from Ford this year. Honoring vehicles that had lower-than-expected ownership costs in the context of their price and market segment, the 2014 Vincentric Best Value in America awards not only recognized the 2014 Chevy Silverado lineup collectively, but they also named the 2014 Silverado 2500HD the Best Value in the Full Size 3/4-Ton Heavy Duty Pickup category.
Vincentric determined its Best Value in America awards by using a statistical model to weigh eight cost factors, including financing, fuel, repairs, maintenance, insurance, opportunity cost and fees and taxes. Twenty-two vehicles were awarded in their respective segments after being evaluated in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., with a variety of insurance profiles and yearly mileages. In addition to the awards for its affordable pickup trucks, Chevrolet was also honored in two other segments, with the 2014 Chevy Spark EV topping the Electric/Plug-in Hybrid Car category and the 2014 Chevy Suburban leading the Large SUV category.
“The entire Silverado lineup delivers value long after buyers leave the dealership because each truck is built to be as reliable as it is rugged, and that lowers costs for repairs and maintenance over time,” said Dan Ariel, general manger of Pine Belt Chevrolet, a New Jersey Chevy dealer in Lakewood. “Chevrolet’s Vincentric rating also benefited from the completely redesigned 2014 Silverado 1500, which not only returns better fuel economy, but also offers standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.”
Sporting a new exterior that is at once muscular and aerodynamic, the 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 features a roof and tailgate spoiler that were shaped in the wind tunnel to reduce drag, as well as a redesigned front end with tighter sealing for more efficient cooling. The standard 2014 Silverado 1500 houses a new 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 engine that returns up to 24 mpg on the highway while producing 305 pound-feet of torque, the most of any standard six-cylinder in its class. Meanwhile, an upgrade to the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 will grant buyers with 355 horsepower while netting them up to 23 mpg on the highway, the most of any V8-powered pickup. For those who need the utmost in output for the worksite, an available 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 has 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque on tap.
