This autumn, fashion retailer M&Co is celebrating its 50th birthday and it is doing so in style with the launch of the new Modern Retro collection.
The clothes are heavily influenced by the fashions of the 1960s, which was when M&Co was born. A predominantly monochrome colour palette is brought to life with pops of cobalt blue and emerald green to add a modern twist to this classic retro look. The popular 60s dogtooth pattern has also been reinvented for the 21st century and is showcased on a panel dress with sheer sleeves and a classic pencil skirt that would be perfect for the office.
Smarter pieces are complemented by cute shift dresses that capture the fun, vibrant feel of the swinging 60s in cream and bright blue, while one of the collection’s stand-out pieces is an oversized dogtooth tweed princess coat.
Lindsey Williams, Buying Director of M&Co, said: “We’re proud of our history here at M&Co and wanted to create a collection that gave a nod to the past but with a contemporary twist. We think we’ve achieved that with our Modern Retro collection and in particular, we’ve paid attention to the use of texture, with metallic jacquards and oversized tweeds taking centre stage for a really authentic 60s look.”
Modern Retro at M&Co is not the only new collection customers can enjoy this season as it is also launching two new collections called Boutique and Forties Artisan along with M&Co Maxi Dresses.
Boutique is aimed as customers that want sophisticated, high-quality dresses that show off their feminine side. Perfect for a night out or a romantic meal, this collection features a classic little black dress in a figure-flattering wrap style, as well as a French navy lace shift dress with a satin waistband for a touch of shine. The colourful floral prom dress is ideal for a summer evening spent drinking cocktails, while a stunning tie blouse can be worn with a decorative sequin and beaded skirt for a real touch of luxury.
In contrast, Forties Artisan is a vintage inspired collection that captures the beauty of autumn perfectly through the use of black, jewelled reds and a deep rose pink. Winter floral prints are the centre of this collection and they can be teamed with tapered leg trousers or a pearl collar knit sweater for a soft and cosy look. For the office, women can match a chic leather-look pencil skirt with a clipped faux fur coat, while a pretty floral tea dress with peplum frill detail looks great worn with a marabou shrug and pill box hat.
