Since arriving on the market this past spring, the redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200 has already proven to be more powerful, more fuel efficient and better equipped than its predecessor, and now, it can add “more crashworthy” to that list. Chrysler’s latest midsize sedan recently earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation, the highest crash rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The 2015 Chrysler 200 went above and beyond the IIHS’ stringent criteria for receiving a Top Safety Pick+ award, securing the top rating of “good” in all five of the agency’s crashworthiness tests and netting a “superior” rating for its optional front crash prevention technology. Several automakers have been stymied by a new small-overlap front crash test that focuses the impact on 25 percent of a vehicle’s front-end on the driver’s side, but the new Chrysler 200 passed with flying colors.
“The Chrysler 200’s top crash rating from the IIHS shows just how serious the brand is about protecting its customers and making the car a legitimate contender at the top of the midsize segment,” said Scott Pinnette, general manager of Central Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, a Chrysler dealership in Waterville, Maine. “When that superior safety is considered along with the car’s standard 184 horsepower, its 36-mpg highway rating and tech features like a rotary e-shift dial, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is hard to turn down at its affordable price point.”
Helping the 2015 Chrysler 200 achieve its 2014 Top Safety Pick+ award were its eight standard air bags and the fact that roughly 65 percent of its body structure is composed of advanced high-strength and boron steel. In addition to its optional Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, which rated well with the IIHS for its autonomous braking, the new Chrysler 200 is available with Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus and ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park Assist. Buyers can also opt for other active-safety technologies, including blind-spot monitoring, ParkSense rear backup sensors, a ParkView rear backup camera and Rear Cross Path Detection.
