Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel Deemed Most Fit for New England Winters

During a particularly trying New England winter this year, the region’s automotive press found that one vehicle stood above the rest when it came to handling the snow, ice and everything in between: the new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel. For the fourth consecutive year, the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) has chosen the Jeep Grand Cherokee as its Official Winter Vehicle of New England, with a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission helping the popular SUV seal the deal for 2014.

The Official Winter Vehicle of New England award is determined by the 55 media members of NEMPA, who consist of auto journalists and talk-show hosts from the six states in the region. Available with a choice of three advanced four-wheel-drive systems, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers dependable all-conditions traction while returning a best-in-class 30 mpg on the highway in the EcoDiesel model with the help of its efficient new transmission. Despite those impressive fuel savings, the EcoDiesel V6 produces a massive 420 pound-feet of torque, allowing the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel to tow a class-leading 7,400 pounds when properly equipped.

“Everyone’s patience was tested with the amount of snow and ice we received in New England this year, but drivers of the new Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel got through it with less headaches and more money saved at the gas pump,” said Richard Gill, owner of Brigham-Gill Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, a Natick, Massachusetts Jeep dealership. “Typically you have to sacrifice at least a little bit of capability and control to get leading fuel efficiency, but that’s simply not the case with the Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel.”

The solid mix of versatility and value in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to attract new customers just as well as it has charmed auto critics, with U.S. sales of the SUV rising by 26 percent in March compared to the same month last year. Nearly 16,000 units of the Grand Cherokee found new homes last month, representing the vehicle’s highest March tally in nine years. Overall, the Jeep brand saw its best monthly sales ever in March, moving 57,983 units for a 47 percent increase year-over-year.
