New Orleans Award-winning photographer Steven Forster, to mark his 35th year in photography, will unveil a fine art photography exhibition at the Boyd Satellite Art Gallery in New Orleans, Louisiana USA on December 7, of 2013. Forster began exhibiting photography in 1978. Steven’s photographs are in private collections in the across the USA and around the globe in such countries as Japan, Germany, Russia, England, France and Spain !!
Steven Forster is a New Orleans native and grew up in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Forster’s work is in public and private collections, among them The Permanent Collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Historic New Orleans Collection Museum, as well as exhibiting at the Contemporary Arts Center, The Robert Bruno Gallery, The Mario Villa Gallery in New Orleans and Chicago, The John Stinson Fine Art Gallery, The World Financial Center Winter Garden in New York City, and many others, including universities. Steven Forster has given many lectures on photography, and with his natural flair for storytelling, they tend to end up being very funny.
Forster has photographed such luminaries as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, Drew Brees, Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hanks, Bob Hope and Ella Fitzgerald to name but a few. His work has been included in exhibitions of master photographers Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Clarence John Laughlin, and Weegee, as well as exhibitions with Yoko Ono, LeRoy Neiman, Peter Max and Tony Bennett.
Steven Forster has had more than 15 thousand photographs published. His clients have included Louis Vuitton, Verizon, Brooks Brothers, GJTBS, Warner Bros.Television, CBS, Fox Sports, Sam’s Club, Texas Roadhouse, Random House Books, Hearst Publications, Advance Publications Inc., and Paramount Pictures. He currently writes and photographs the Big Easy page in the Sunday editions of the New Orleans Times-Picayune and NOLA.COM, as well as his monthly fashion column My Way in the Times-Picayune WISH Magazine since its initial printing before Hurricane Katrina. Forster was honored with the New Orleans Forum For Equality Award in 2002. The New Orleans LGBT Community Center awarded Steven Forster with its LGBT Founder’s Day Media Award in 2009. In 2010 Steven Forster was chosen as Grand Marshal of Pride in New Orleans. Steven Forster has won eight Alpha Awards in Fashion Photography. Forster swept the Fashion Photography category for both published and non-published work at the last annual Alpha Awards presented by the Fashion Group International (founded in 1930) of New Orleans. Forster shut out all other published and non-published fashion photographers from the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas,Alabama and the Florida panhandle. The New York Times, A&E Network, People Magazine, Associated Press, Elle Magazine, TV Guide,Washington Monthly, ZOOM International Magazine, Perez Hilton, have all published Forster’s work.
Steven Forster has been called a “Poet of Photography” by Figaro Newspaper. Steven Forster has photographed four American Presidents. And Steven has photographed two First Lady’s in New Orleans,: The First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald and The First Lady of the Musical Comedy Stage, Ethel Merman. Steven Forster’s New Orleans photography exhibition will open on the 7th of December and be on exhibit through the month of December 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana USA.
