Owners Rate Subaru Legacy Highest in Crowded Midsize Class

Car buyers have seemingly endless choices in the midsize sedan segment, but when it comes to being pleased after that choice is made, new research has found that Subaru Legacy owners are left with the least regrets. Autobytel Inc. and AutoPacific recently named the Legacy the Most Ideal Mid-Size Car in their 2012 Ideal Vehicle Awards, which were determined by surveys of more than 75,000 owners of 2012-model-year vehicles after they spent 90 days with their ride.

Covering 15 vehicle attributes, Autobytel and AutoPacific asked owners what they would like to change about their car, and the models with the least amount of requested changes in their segment were announced Ideal Vehicle Award winners. After 2012 Subaru Legacy owners addressed topics ranging from styling and cargo space to power and technology, it was found that they had the fewest issues with their purchase in comparison to owners of other models in the Mid-Size Car category.

“The Legacy has always had an outstanding reputation for reliability and capability, but Subaru has been adding more refinement and premium features with each update, and that is resonating with buyers,” said Chris Dunn, general sales manager of Mastria Subaru, a Raynham, MA Subaru dealer. “We’d expect the Legacy to perform even better in the next Ideal Vehicle Awards because it just received a variety of upgrades for the 2013 model year.”

Currently available at dealerships, the standard 2013 Subaru Legacy features a more powerful and efficient FB Series 2.5-liter Boxer engine, as well as a revised suspension for improved ride and agility. Meanwhile, top-trim Limited models now offer more luxury and convenience, including a new glossy wood trim, a 3.5-inch color screen for the multi-information display and a rear-seat A/C outlet. The 2013 Legacy is also available with Subaru’s new EyeSight driver-assist system, which uses a stereo camera to integrate Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning.

Through July of this year, sales of the Subaru Legacy are up nearly 11 percent year-over-year, moving 27,593 units in the United States. That performance has helped boost the automaker’s overall U.S. sales, which are up 23 percent year-to-date, with 189,487 vehicles sold.

Subaru’s recent success on the sales floor has helped it lead TrueCar.com’s Performance Scorecards for three months in a row, dating back to May when it topped BMW. Rating automakers on a range of measures, from pricing and sales to customer loyalty and market share, TrueCar.com once again gave Subaru a top A+ grade on its Performance Scorecard in July.

“TrueCar.com’s Performance Scorecards show that Subaru is not only providing customers with what they want for vehicle features, but also delivering on matters discussed at a dealer’s desk, like pricing and incentives,” added Dunn. “There is no other automaker that can offer such a range of benefits right now, and that is evidenced in the sales figures as well as owner surveys.”
