Physical Therapy Documentation Software Maker Shares iOS5 Tips

Prognition Corp., the makers of Mavenlive, is sharing a pair of helpful tips with physical therapists who use the company’s physical therapy documentation software.

Apple released the iOS5 upgrade in October, and since then Chris Metcalfe, VP of technical development for Prognition Corp. has experimented with the iPad and found a pair of tricks that are sure to be of benefit to those who utilize the physical therapy exercise software, he said.

Shortcut Feature

One feature that a therapist would probably find useful when recording rehabilitation documentation is the ability to create keyboard shortcuts, Metcalfe said. To get to this feature, go to Settings- General- Keyboard- Shortcuts.

Shortcuts make it possible for the physical therapist to create customizations. The default recognizes when “omw” is typed and replaces it with “On my way!”

This also could be useful to people who work in a profession that uses short hand. To cite a couple of examples, a physiotherapist could create a shortcut for “ROM” (range of motion) or “HEP” (home exercise program).”

Split Keyboard

The keyboard can be split when the user goes to Settings- General- Keyboard- Split Keyboard. Dividing the keyboard makes typing with the thumbs easier, according to the Unofficial Apple Weblog.

“I’ve used this feature with my iPad and it’s a lot faster to type this way when I’m holding it with both hands,” Metcalfe said. “I can see where it could be quicker for a PT who stands as he or she uses our physical therapist software.”
