Reinforced Kia Forte Receives 5-Star Safety Rating from NHTSA

For the 2015 model year, Kia reinforced its Forte by strengthening the compact sedan’s A-pillars and lower side sills, and it appears those changes have led to a significant improvement in crash protection. After exceling in a variety of crash tests, the 2015 Kia Forte recently earned a 5-Star Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in its New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).

To achieve its overall 5-Star Safety Rating, the 2015 Forte secured five stars in the NHTSA’s side crash tests while landing four stars in the frontal crash and rollover tests. In addition to the extensive use of high-strength steel in its body structure, the Forte sedan boasts an impressive list of standard safety features, including six airbags, front seat-belt pretensioners, an impact-absorbing steering column and reinforced side-impact door beams.

“Whether it’s the Forte’s excellent gas mileage or its intuitive in-car technology, buyers get a ton of value at an affordable price, but they can also feel confident that their passengers are being protected, and that is invaluable,” said Jeff Rosen, general manager of Wisconsin Kia dealer Rosen Kia Milwaukee. “When it comes down to it, the Forte offers all the qualities that modern drivers care about without hitting them hard in the wallet or pocketbook.”

With its two available engines refined for the 2015 model year, the Kia Forte now provides improved fuel economy across the board. The base 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine returns up to 39 mpg on the highway when paired with the optional six-speed automatic transmission, netting three more miles per gallon than equivalent 2014 models. On the other hand, the available direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder is rated at 36 mpg on the highway while producing a responsive 173 horsepower. Inside the cabin, all 2015 Forte models come standard with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and USB and auxiliary inputs.
