Sales at Russel Mazda Help Charities During Mazda Drive for Good Event

12/02/2014 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Baltimore, MD // Russel Mazda

With the launch of the second annual Mazda Drive for Good event at Russel Mazda, Baltimore Mazda fans who are searching for a new vehicle this holiday season have a special opportunity to help those in need. From now through Jan. 2, anyone who purchases or leases a new Mazda vehicle at the Baltimore dealership can direct a $150 donation from Mazda to one of five deserving charities. Not only that, but for every test-drive taken at Russel Mazda during that period, Mazda or one of its business partners will dedicate one hour of charitable service beginning in 2015.

New-vehicle buyers at Russel Mazda can choose from four national charities to support, including the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Mazda Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as well as the local option to benefit the South Atlantic Division of the American Cancer Society. Last year, Mazda donated more than $2.7 million to charities and committed to more than 56,000 hours of volunteer time at organizations throughout the country as part of its national Drive for Good event. The automaker is looking to surpass those numbers this time around after raising its donation amount per vehicle and upping its promotional efforts.

“For most of the year, our employees spend their time 100 percent focused on their customers, but the Mazda Drive for Good event gives them the great opportunity to take a moment with each buyer and consider those who are less fortunate,” said Dan Coy, new car general sales manager at Russel Mazda. “The best part is that even customers who just come in for a test-drive are supporting the cause by generating volunteer hours, and that makes Mazda’s event unique compared to other automakers’ holiday campaigns.”

In addition to its donations at dealerships, Mazda will be bringing a charitable project to life in a local community through a partnership with NBC Universal and actress Minnie Driver. An online contest requested ideas from the public on how they would improve their communities, and a winning submission will be announced during NBC’s annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center special on Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. EST. TV viewers are also learning about the Mazda Drive for Good event through a 30-second spot featuring St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital founder Danny Thomas, and a two-minute piece highlighting Mazda’s recent charitable efforts is currently playing in cinemas.
