Shaw Flooring Graces Greenbuild LivingHome Bound for New Orleans

11/05/2014 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // BURLINGTON, Mass. // A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring

With so much turmoil elsewhere in the world, it can be easy to forget that parts of New Orleans are still recovering from the disastrous Hurricane Katrina nearly a decade ago. Thankfully, organizations like actor Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation are still aiding the recovery effort. The nonprofit is sending a Greenbuild LivingHome featuring Shaw flooring to the city’s Lower Ninth Ward, which was the hardest hit by the costliest natural disaster in the history of the United States.

ENERGY STAR v3 certified and designed to meet LEED for Home v4 Platinum requirements, the Greenbuild LivingHome is joining the more than 100 Make It Right homes in the Lower Ninth Ward that are outfitted with Shaw flooring. Prior to installation, the modular home was on display at the 2014 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo in New Orleans from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24. Shaw’s Cradle to Cradle certified American Restoration Epic engineered hardwood can be found in the dining room, hallway, kitchen, living room and bedrooms, while the brand’s 40-percent-recyled-content Fired Hickory porcelain tile livens up the entry way.

“If any positive can be gleaned from a horrible tragedy like Hurricane Katrina, it’s that new buildings are going up in New Orleans that are designed for a sustainable future, and we’re proud to offer a flooring brand like Shaw that is playing a part in that recovery,” said Barry Greenberg, retail sales manager at A.J. Rose Carpets & Flooring, a Shaw flooring dealer with locations in Burlington, Natick and Saugus, Mass. “Not only are Shaw’s products produced with a minimal impact on the environment, but they are also built to last and stylish at the same time.”

Boasting a reclaimed-wood design that incorporates distinctive markings, Shaw’s American Restoration engineered hardwood aims to capture the rustic elegance of old worn barnwood, yet it modernizes the look with an oil-stained finish. Other Shaw products that have earned Cradle to Cradle Silver certification include Anso Type 6 Nylon fiber, Eco Solution Q Type 6 Nylon fiber, EcoWorx Broadloom, EcoWorx carpet tile backing, EcoWorx Performance Broadloom backing and Zeftron Nylon fiber.
