Subaru Lets Facebook Fans Decide Where ‘Share the Love’ Donations Should Go

08/10/2012 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // Warwick, R.I. // Balise Subaru

This year, Subaru expects to contribute a total of $5 million to five U.S. charities during its fifth-annual Share the Love event, and it will be giving its Facebook fans the opportunity to choose two of those organizations. The automaker will donate $250 for every new Subaru purchased or leased between Nov. 21 and Jan. 2 until it reaches its pledge amount. During the last four years, Subaru has given nearly $20 million to charitable organizations through Share the Love.

From now through Aug. 26, Facebook fans of Subaru of America can vote on six non-profit candidates at sharethelove.subaru.com/facebook, including the Alzheimer’s Association, American Forests, First Book, Leave No Trace, the Special Olympics and the USO. Meanwhile, Subaru has again committed to three returning Share the Love organizations, including the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Meals On Wheels Association of America, which have received more than $5 million and $4 million respectively in four years. The third charity, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, joined Share the Love last year and received more than $1.2 million.

“Subaru is dedicated to giving back to the community, and we’re proud to be a part of that,” said David McAvay, general manager of Balise Subaru, a Rhode Island Subaru dealer. “The donations from the Share the Love event will go to national groups, but they will still have a very real impact on Rhode Island residents.”

Given Subaru’s recent sales success, reaching the $5-million mark should be an easy feat for the 2012 Share the Love event. July marked the automaker’s eighth-consecutive month of record monthly sales, with 25,183 units sold. Year-to-date, Subaru has moved 153,779 units in the United States, up 23 percent compared to the same period in 2011.

Subaru’s sales numbers have received a big boost this year from the redesigned 2012 Subaru Impreza, which more than doubled its sales in July year-over-year, selling 4,553 units. With a 160-percent increase in sales year-to-date compared to the same period last year, the Impreza is also on track to more than double its full-year numbers.

The Impreza received a complete makeover for the 2012 model year, getting a new 148-horsepower 2.0-liter Boxer engine and an optional continuously variable transmission that can together return up to 36 mpg on the highway. That efficiency comes without sacrificing Subaru’s signature all-wheel-drive capability, while higher-grade interior materials and more room in the cabin make the new model more competitive with other vehicles in its class.

“The Impreza redesign is proving very popular with Rhode Island motorists that are attracted to the thought of all-wheel drive come winter, but want excellent fuel efficiency for year-round driving,” added McAvay. “We expect the big Impreza sales to continue through the end of the year, which means plenty of charitable donations through the Share the Love event.”
