The Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC)—the electric utility industry’s longest-serving and preeminent leader in operations expertise—today announced its support for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA), passed by the United States Senate.

AEIC’s 180 member companies—comprised of the nation’s leading electric utilities—acknowledge the value of the substantial investments in electricity infrastructure included in the bill and the opportunities this creates for critical operational advancements in the generation, transmission, distribution, storage and use of electric power for the benefit of all.

“This historic bill will accelerate the deployment of technologies and systems to modernize and enhance the electric grid,” said Steve Hauser, CEO of AEIC. “Our members stand ready to work with the Department of Energy and other industry stakeholders to ensure that these investments are strategically aligned with both our current and long-term grid infrastructure objectives.”

AEIC brings together leading operations experts to share knowledge and provide guidance to the industry essential to achieving operational excellence and grid modernization. The association achieves this through technical committees focused on all areas of grid operations.

“AEIC’s deep bench of operations experts and its long-standing technical committee structure is ideally aligned to play an important role in providing guidance to ensure successful operational deployment of these major infrastructure investments in the grid,” said Hauser. “Our committee members are problem-solvers who rise to meet the day-to-day challenges of operating the nation’s electric grid as well as visionaries who accelerate opportunities for modern transformation. We look forward to the opportunity to contribute.”
