Toyota Unleashes Sport Limited Edition of Popular Camry SE

Since its redesign for the 2012 model year last fall, the Toyota Camry has received a big boost from its sportier SE trim. Featuring a firmer suspension and bolder styling, the Camry SE has made up roughly 40 percent of the Camry’s overall sales through July, up from 7 percent a year ago, and that percentage could grow with a new Sport Limited Edition model now on sale at dealers.

Receiving smoked-finish 18-inch alloy wheels and the option of a unique Blizzard Pearl body color, the 2012 Toyota Camry SE Sport Limited Edition builds upon the regular SE model’s exterior, which features styling cues like a sport front mesh grille and black headlamp bezels. Inside, the limited-production model increases the comfort and convenience factor with a power sunroof, an eight-way power driver’s seat and a 6.1-inch touchscreen that controls navigation and Toyota’s Entune infotainment system.

“We’ve already seen the new Camry SE draw in a lot more younger buyers with its mix of style and performance, and the Sport Limited Edition will give shoppers a chance to take home a model that is even more unique,” said Rob Patel, general sales manager of Advantage Toyota, a Long Island Toyota dealer. “The SE model still has the Camry’s excellent reliability and fuel economy, but it also has the looks to stand out in the crowd.”

Toyota has reported that the average age of SE model buyers this year has been 45 years old, which is 15 years younger than the average age of Camry buyers in 2011. In fact, with Toyota’s efforts to make its redesigned midsize sedan more luxurious, stylish and engaging across the lineup, the average age of Camry buyers overall has dropped by almost nine years in 2012 compared to last year.

Regardless of their age, buyers of the 2012 Toyota Camry SE can choose between two engines when identifying their preferred combination of power and efficiency. The standard SE model and Sport Limited Edition each come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that outputs 178 horsepower while returning an impressive 35 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, customers that lean more toward the performance end of the spectrum can opt for a 3.5-liter six-cylinder that churns out 268 horsepower yet still nets 30 mpg on the highway.

Toyota has also made sure that each Camry SE model has a premium feel in the cabin, using silver trim and a leather-wrapped steering wheel fitted with paddle shifters and controls for voice commands and Bluetooth. The available Convenience Package offers even more useful technologies, including a rear backup camera, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Smart Key System with Push Button Start.

“Having a dependable ride no longer means that you have to give up luxury, style and handling, and no other model on the market is proving that better than the 2012 Camry SE,” added Patel. “The increased competition in the midsize segment made Toyota step up its game with the latest Camry redesign, and car buyers are the ones that are benefiting.”
