Transformance Awards Its 2016 Financial Literacy Champion

Ada Williams, Chairman of the Board of Credit Union of Texas, Is Honored

 

Transformance, Inc. has announced the presentation of its 2016 Financial Literacy Champion award to Mrs. Ada Williams, Chairman of the Board, Credit Union of Texas. The award presentation was made on Wednesday, April 27, at a meeting of the Credit Union of Texas board of directors.

 

The annual Financial Literacy Champion Award is presented to a local individual who best exemplifies the core tenets of both teaching and implementing financial education programs to individuals, families and communities.

 

In presenting the award, Ken Goodgames, CEO of Transformance, noted, “Credit Union of Texas exemplifies the community-based credit union spirit in serving the financial needs of low-to-moderate income families, and we are truly proud to honor the many years of service of its board chair, Mrs. Ada Williams.” Prior recipients include Carol Nichols (Capital One) in 2014 and Michelle Wheeler (Jackson-Shaw) in 2015.

 

Williams was appointed by the Governor of Texas to serve on the Texas Credit Union Commission from May 1983 to March 1989. She has served on the board of directors at the $1 billion credit union since 1981 and has been chairman since 1996. “Ada Williams brings a 33-year legacy of service to not just Credit Union of Texas, but to the greater credit union community as a whole,” said John Lederer, CEO of Credit Union of Texas.

 

Williams started her career in education in 1955 as an elementary school teacher in Dallas ISD. She eventually served as an elementary and secondary school counselor before taking on the role of the district’s director of employee organizations.

A registered professional parliamentarian, she served as the elected parliamentarian for DISD Board of Trustees, 1998-2002. She has also served as the parliamentarian for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She retired from DISD in 2002 and has always held numerous volunteer leadership positions in the community.

 

Dallas-based Credit Union of Texas has more than $1.135 billion in assets and provides financial services to more than 120,000 members in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, Denton, and parts of Grayson, Fannin, Ellis and Tarrant counties.
